Walking the Path

This September is a little different for me.

By the time you are reading this I'll be a week into a long distance hike in Spain. Spending the month slowing down and reconnecting with why I love movement and being outdoors so much is a real treat.

For my amazing team in the office: thank you.

Thank you for continuing to care for our patients, for supporting one another, and for carrying forward the culture we've built together. One of the things I'm proudest of at Good Life is the team and community we are and create. It’s not about one person, it’s about a group of people who genuinely care about helping others move better, feel better, and live fuller lives.

As I prepare for this trip, I've been thinking a lot about walking.

You can't rush a long trail. You don’t just skip ahead to the peaks or best views, you take one step, then the next, and then the next, knowing that every step adds up and eventually you will finish your 20 miles for the day and your 100+ miles for the week and the 520 mile trail from start to finish, just one step at a time.  And in that time the peaks and views are part of the journey, but the whole journey is the point – not just those picturesque moments.

Physical therapy isn't really any different. Neither is life.

Our patients never heal all at once. Strength is built one session, one day, one rep at a time. Confidence returns one improved movement at a time. Lasting change happens because people continue taking the next step, even when progress feels slow.

I think that's one of the most beautiful lessons our profession offers.

This month, while I'm taking one step at a time along the northern coast of Spain, I hope you'll find opportunities to notice your own path. Take a walk without rushing. Step outside between appointments. Notice your breathing. Appreciate what your body is capable of today, and how what it does for you in that moment contributes to the greater whole of what you can do in a day, a week, and month.

To my team: thank you for everything you do. I know our patients are in wonderful hands, and I'm grateful every day to work alongside people who care as deeply as you do.

I'll look forward to hearing your stories when I return.

Until then, keep taking the next step.
