Spine Therapy in Tarrytown, NY - Good Life Physical Therapy

Spine

Your spine is the foundation of your movement — and when it’s not working well, everything else suffers. We help you address back and neck pain at the source so you can move with confidence, restore function, and prevent long-term strain.

Anatomy and Function

The spine is your body’s central support structure, made up of 33 vertebrae divided into cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal regions. Around the vertebrae are over 50 muscles that weave around the spine to produce both stability and movement. The spine supports the head, trunk, and pelvis while providing a pathway for nerves to traverse from the brain to all parts of your body through the spinal cord. Healthy spinal function includes bone, joint, muscle, and nerve health and is essential for bending, twisting, lifting, and walking. When alignment or mobility is compromised — whether due to injury, poor posture, or aging — it can affect your entire body and nervous system.

We treat a wide range of spinal conditions, from postural strain to nerve-related pain.

How Physical Therapy Helps

Physical therapy helps you restore spinal alignment, reduce pressure on nerves, and strengthen the muscles that support posture and movement. We combine hands-on treatment with guided exercise and education to reduce pain and stiffness, improve mobility, and prevent future flare-ups. Whether your discomfort is rooted in disc issues, chronic tension, or postural imbalance, we help you move with greater freedom and less strain. We teach you to manage your spine's health independently for ongoing comfort and ease of movement.

Additional FAQs

Do I need imaging before starting physical therapy for spine pain?

No. Most spine-related issues can be assessed and safely treated through movement screening. If imaging is needed, we’ll let you know why. Physical therapy diagnostic testing is very accurate and allows us to start treatment without waiting for imaging appointments and results.
