Finding Balance: Recalibrate Your Goals This Spring

The Spring months are a time to look back at the winter we made it through! and forward at the summer that is to come. In these transition times, we can easily be pulled along with the momentum of what is to come or held back by energy from the prior season - or we can take this time to find balance in the moment.
Take some time today and this week to recalibrate. How are you feeling? Do your goals from a few months ago still fit - or have you outgrown them or found a new mission you’d like to make the center of your focus? Does the way your body is presenting today and this week bring you toward those goals? What rhythms does this season bring - and do they fit with how you want to feel? Take some time to rebalance - say no to something you previously set yourself up to do if it’s not working. Say yes to something you really want to do but initially didn’t think fit in your life.
Trade the old ideas out for what fits you today.
In our physical therapy work we are at a time of recalibrating many of our patients for changing activities. Indoor workout classes are being gradually replaced with running outdoors, gardening, biking. Quiet nights that were spent at home are now full of soccer and baseball practices. Recognize that transitions can be hard, prepare for them! Take the time to build strength in your single leg squats before tackling a new running program. Remember to stretch after the first big bike ride of the season. Cut out some habits that aren’t working for you, too! Find the rhythm that matches your current status, your current needs, and your current goals.
